Dorothy Whalen

Dorothy Whalen, MSW, MA TH, a Certified Catholic Spiritual Director, offers spiritual direction to those seeking a deeper relationship with God. Trained in Ignatian spirituality, Dorothy received a Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Spring Hill College in 2019 and completed the SHC Directed Retreat Formation Program, including the 19th Annotation, in 2022. Dorothy also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Theology from St. Leo University. With a Master of Social Work Dorothy practiced psychotherapy for 35 years before retiring her practice in 2022. Dorothy has been married to her husband Tom for over fifty years and has a married son and two grandchildren. Deacon Tom Whalen

Catholic Spiritual Director

Deacon Tom received an MA in Theology from St. Leo University in 2015 and was ordained into the Permanent Diaconate in the Diocese of Charleston in 2016. He currently serves at St Mary’s Church, Greenville. He received the Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Spring Hill College in 2019 and completed the SHC Directed Retreat Formation Program including the Ignatian 19th Annotation in 2022. He has been married to Dorothy for over fifty years and they have one married son and two grandchildren. Retirement from corporate life in 2020 has allowed him to serve in many ministries, including spiritual direction. He was appointed by the Bishop of Charleston to develop and serve as Coordinator of the Office of Spiritual Directors in 2023 for the diocese.
